Overcoming fear

Imagine what life would be like if you never experienced any fear. You’d be free to live fearlessly! Imagine the results you would get in your life because of the bold and confident approached to life you would have. A lot of us make decisions out of fear; fear of lack, fear of failure, fear of others’ opinions… as believers, we should not be bound by fear!

2 Timothy 1:7 New King James Version (NKJV)
For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.

The opposite of fear is power. When you fear you are powerless. The Spirit of power in you will bring results in life but the spirit of fear will only keep you in a place of weakness and bondage. One of the reasons that you may not be seeing the fruit that you desire is that you’re dominated by fear, but the good news is that you do not have to fear. You can live fearlessly! You do not have to fear anything because God is with you. Knowing this will encourage you to and cause you to rise up and thrive in life more than ever before. If you were to let go of fear and live boldly and courageously because of the Greater One living inside of you, you would start to unlock the potential inside of you, walk in your purpose and fulfil your destiny!

Imagine what results you would get in your life if you abandoned fear and just pursued whatever God was leading you to pursue? The boldness and confidence (faith) that you would be operating in would bring so much fruitfulness! You may believe that fear is some kind of uncontrollable force but it’s not. The temptation to fear will come knocking and if you give in to it, even an inch, it will take over and you will experience all sorts of physical reactions (panic attacks, sickness and other things). Fear is nasty; it isn’t trying to bless you. It will only cause stress, anxiety and a whole lot of physical reactions, including illness. Fear is not your friend. Fear is set to work against you and destroy your destiny.

How do you get rid of fear? How do you walk boldly and courageously in the confidence that God desires for you? We’ll look at that in a bit, but first you need to realize that as long as you allow yourselves to be bound by fear, you will not walk in your destiny.

Isaiah 26:3-4 New King James Version (NKJV)
You will keep him in perfect peace, Whose mind is stayed on You, Because he trusts in You. 4 Trust in the Lord forever, For in Yah, the Lord, is everlasting strength.

Peace is something that we all desire. Every single person on the planet desires peace; no one likes to be stressed out. I don’t know anyone who likes to live on the edge of sanity where you’re ready to snap at any given moment. We all want to live in perfect peace. People are seeking peace in all the wrong places! Some are seeking peace in a bottle of alcohol, others in pills, or consumerism, vacations and many other things. Some of these things are good things and not sin, but none of them will bring true peace. It would be like a band-aid on an amputee! Vacations are good and they’ll bless and hopefully refresh you, but they always come to an end and you have to return to all the problems that you forgot about! You have to deal with stress not suppress it! Some people seek peace in exercise which is a great way to manage stress but it will not deal with whatever you’re facing. If you don’t learn to deal with the issues of life in a way where they don’t stress you out, then it doesn’t matter how much you exercise, it doesn’t matter how much you drink, it doesn’t matter how much luxury you indulge in, once you’re finished indulging, the problems will all still be there. You need to learn to deal with the stresses of life in a way where they don’t stress you out.

Keeping your heart and mind fixed on God and trusting in Him results in perfect peace. Perfect peace will bring everlasting strength in your life. As you’re not experiencing this perfect peace, which can only come from Jesus, the Prince of peace, you’re going to be stressed out, weak and you’re going to fail in this life. If you want to be strong, if you want to reign in life, if you want to be victorious, then you need to keep your mind stayed on Jesus; fixed on His promises. You need to keep your heart focused on the fact that He is always with you, that He is for you, not against you and that He is the greater One who lives in you, therefore, you can be bold and of good courage – fearless!

Whenever fear starts to try and overcome you all you need to do is focus on the truth of God’s Word and start declaring what the Word of God says concerning your situation and you will rise up and overcome that spirit of fear.
