Are you struggling with fear? Is fear holding you back from moving forward in the direction that you should be going? Fear is something that a lot of people struggle with but throughout the Word of God, we are told not to fear. Whilst there is a good reason not to fear there are also good reasons to fear. The good news is that the reason not to fear far outweighs the reason to fear! We have God himself on our side; He is for us, not against us!
1 John 4:4 New King James Version (NKJV)
You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.
If the greater One lives inside of you, why would you fear anything or anyone coming against you? What, or Who is inside of you is greater than anyone or anything that can come against you. It doesn’t matter if every demon of hell was unleashed against you at the same time – the One that’s in you (Jesus; your hope of glory) is greater than anyone and anything that could come against you. Do you know Who is living inside of you? Are you convinced that Jesus lives in you? Jesus lives, dwells, abides in you, and He is greater than anything that could come against you.
Deuteronomy 31:1 New King James Version (NKJV)
Then Moses went and spoke these words to all Israel. 2 And he said to them: “I am one hundred and twenty years old today. I can no longer go out and come in…
Moses tells them that he will not go over into the Promise Land, and that as they do they’re going to have to fight. There will be enemies to conquer but they will conquer them; they are going to win because God’s on their side.
Deuteronomy 31:6 New King James Version (NKJV)
“Be strong and of good courage, do not fear nor be afraid of them; for the Lord your God, He is the One who goes with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you.”
If that doesn’t encourage you, nothing will. God is going with you and will never forsake or drop you. My goodness, that is so encouraging! In moving forward in the purposes of God we have nothing to worry about because God is with us. “Be strong and of good courage, fear not and be not afraid of them…” He was saying that because there they had good reason to be fearful. They had good reason to be weak and fearful and afraid. You may have very good reasons to be fearful; the opposing forces coming against you probably aren’t from Disneyland. Like with the Hebrews, the opposing forces are strong and scary but compared to the greater One who lives in you, those opposing forces are like ants in an ocean. Do you realize Who is living inside of you? You do not have to fear when you put things into perspective. Yes, whatever you’re facing may be a huge challenge, but you don’t have to fear because God is with you; He goes with you wherever you go and you know he can enable you to overcome the challenges you face. When you’re convinced of these truths, which are in the Word, you will not be fearful but fearless.
I like how my friend, Pastor Isaac from Zimbabwe puts it, he says, “because of the greater One living in me, fear is scared of me!” And that’s the attitude we’ve got to have as believers. We have no reason to fear the enemy. God is with us and He is for us, not against us. Jesus, the King of glory, lives in me, therefore fear is scared of me!
