Romans 4:18-20 King James Version (KJV)
18 Who against hope believed in hope, that he might become the father of many nations, according to that which was spoken, So shall thy seed be.
19 And being not weak in faith, he considered not his own body now dead, when he was about an hundred years old, neither yet the deadness of Sarah’s womb:
20 He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God
God gave Abraham a promise that went against all odds – nothing in the natural said that this promise would be possible. God said that Abram would be the father of many nations and yet in the natural realm, Abram and his wide were old and past the age of being able to have children; in the natural there was no chance that they could have children. The promise of God was contrary to their circumstances. God gave Abram a promise and Abram held onto that promise. He considered the promise from God and not his own body or limitations. He didn’t consider his wife’s limitations, either. Abraham chose to consider his limitless God who was more than able to accomplish what his Word said. As a result, Abraham became the father of many nations. The promise came to fulfilment because Abraham believed.
Abraham did not consider his circumstances; he didn’t consider what he was able to do but focused on God’s Word. He didn’t waver between two opinions; he didn’t say, “God said this but this is what I feel…” Abraham didn’t say, “I know God said I’d be the father of many but I don’t have any children and look at me: I’m too old to have children!” Abraham didn’t focus in on all the reasons it couldn’t happen.
Too many Christians live in a place where they know what God’s Word says, but they struggle to stand in faith. Why? Because they are considering the circumstances and not what God says. I’ve heard people say things like, “I know I can trust God to look after me financially but we live in the real world – look at what is going on around us!” They consider all the circumstances and what’s going on in the natural but they aren’t considering what God’s Word says nor that God is more trustworthy than any circumstance. If you’re like that you’ll never see the supernatural power of God in your life.
Romans 4:21 King James Version (KJV)
And being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform.
Faith is being fully persuaded that what God has promised, God is also able to perform. Faith isn’t being mostly persuaded; it’s being fully persuaded. This means that there is no other option – no other option for you. True faith is being fully persuaded. What are you fully persuaded of? Maybe you’re in a difficult situation right now, whether that’s a health or financial challenge or something else, you need to ask yourself: “what am I fully persuaded of in this moment?”
A lot of Christians in difficult circumstances will be fully persuaded of their challenges but not fully persuaded of what God’s Word says. You need to believe God and His Word no matter what the circumstances look like. His Word is truer than anything else. Whatever the doctor tells you is subject to change. What man tells you is subject to change. What you feel in your body is subject to change. Your bank accounts is subject to change. All circumstances are subject to change but the Word of God will never change. God says that He loves you and that’s never going to change. God says that He will never leave you nor forsake you, and that He will provide for you according to His riches in glory – there are so many promises from God in His Word! What you feel is not ultimate truth – God’s Word is ultimate truth! What God says is, but what man says is subject to change. We’ve got to be fully persuaded and thoroughly convinced that what God has promised, He is also able to perform. We’ve got to stop believing our circumstances and start believing what God says. Now, if you go to the doctor please don’t fight the doctor! The doctor is there to help you and he or she wants to help you, OK! You went to your doctor to get his or her report, so take the report and then go to God in prayer and counter the doctor’s report with the Word of God. Say, “thank You, Jesus, that although this is what the natural says, Your word says I am healed! I’m choosing to go with what your Word says!” The economy may be a bit crazy right now, but don’t allow that to put you in fear. God is your Father and He wants to care for you. Say, “Father, things are going wrong and are unstable financially but I’m choosing to believe Your Word which says that You provide for me according to Your riches and glory!” Your Father isn’t limited by the world’s economy; He doesn’t provide for you according to the economy but according to His riches in glory! Heaven is not in a recession and is not experiencing any lack or shortage. God wants His will to be done on earth as it is in heaven; what’s happening in heaven is what He wants for you now! Choose to be fully persuaded that what God said, He is also able to do! Don’t be moved by what circumstances and other people are telling you. Be fully persuaded that what God has said is true, and that what He promised He is also able and willing to perform!
